So far, so good- I have had four of these on my 2009 Prius forjust under 2 years and 20,000 miles and have to say I have not had a single problem. When I had Continental PureContact Radial Tire – 235/45R18 94V installed, I remember driving away and thinking about how smooth the ride felt and it still feels that way today! If you are an everyday commuter like me (~60 miles per day), you want nothing more from your tires than for them to get you from point A to point B without a hitch. The everyday commuting factor along with an all-season option for wet winters in Seattle were the main criteria that guided my research and these Continental PureContact Radial Tire – 235/45R18 94V tick all the boxes as well as going beyond by adding in a little snow traction!

For me, Continental walks the walk- you really can not go wrong with the total confidence plan, as long as you remember to register within few days of purchase! It seems that not all local dealers give you this information. I registered my tires as soon as I got them and while I haven’t had to use roadside assistance or replace any of my tires, it is nice knowing that the company stands behind its products.

Despite the website describing these as a “quiet tire,” due to the Comfort Ride Technology, I would say they are actually quite loud (compared to previous tires) at speeds above 30 MPH although it has been suggested that it could be my car! But this is a very small complaint when it comes to the overall performance. You can not argue with better gas mileage and, after a slight break in period at first, I have been experiencing an estimated boost of about 2 MPG. However, traction was the most notable improvement over past tires; even during the break in period, my little FWD Prius was sticking to corners like a dream. Having been on them for just over 20,000 miles, the tread is fine and I have not noticed any significant difference in traction since they were first put on. Other reviews have also noted the wet braking power of these tires and, living in Seattle, let me tell you they live up to the hype. I have even taken them into the snow (yes the Prius can do it) on a wet spring trip to Leavenworth and it went off without a hitch.

 

 

Overall, I am a pragmatic driver and, accordingly, I am pragmatic about tire choice. When it comes to putting tires on my car, I subscribe to the wisdom that says “invest in the best,” but in my case, the best usually also denotes value for money. This is what I like about the Continental PureContact Radial Tire – 235/45R18 94V; for a mid-price point, I have had no problems- no flats, and with regular rotation and alignment checkups I can not see why these Continental PureContact Radial Tire – 235/45R18 94V won’t last for 30,000 more miles. They will be my go-to tire from now on and I encourage others to try them as well!

  • Featuring a silica-enhanced, all-season tread compound, the PureContact with EcoPlus Technology incorporates Continental’s Tg-F Polymers and +Silane additives to improve treadwear, fuel efficiency and traction on slippery roads. The compound is molded into a computer-optimized asymmetric tread design that reduces pattern noise while chamfered tread block edges enhance dry-road handling. Independent tread blocks are siped to provide additional biting edges while Continental’s Traction Grooves (vertical ridges in the circumferential grooves) promote three-dimensional snow-to-snow traction.
  • PureContact with EcoPlus Technology’s tread pattern features Tuned Performance Indicators — visible letters molded into the outboard shoulder to alert drivers of the tire’s potential performance in various weather conditions. A visible “DWS” indicates the tire has sufficient tread depth for dry conditions, as well as wet roads and light snow. After the “S” has worn away, the remaining “DW” indicates the tire only has sufficient tread depth for dry and most wet road conditions. And after the “W” and “S” have both worn away, the remaining “D” indicates the tire has appropriate tread depth for dry conditions only.
  • The tire’s internal structure features twin steel belts reinforced with spirally wound jointless polyamide to blend high-speed durability with ride uniformity. Continental’s ComfortRide Technology includes a cushioning layer of rubber to absorb vibrations caused by road surface irregularities. PureContact tires also feature weight-optimized construction to reduce weight and rolling resistance.
